Seven people die and more than 20 are injured after bus overturns on BR-277

A bus belonging to the Catarinense company overturned at kilometer 230 of BR 277 in Fernandes Pinheiro, leaving seven people dead and 22 victims injured, in the early hours of Tuesday (31). The accident happened around 1:50 am and the PRF (Federal Highway Police) has not yet passed on information about how the fact happened. The vehicle was traveling from Florianópolis (SC) to Foz do Iguaçu (PR), when it overturned off BR 277.
There were 54 passengers in the vehicle, of which 22 were taken to hospitals. Twenty-six were uninjured, including the driver. Teams from the IML (Legal Medical Institute) of Ponta Grossa were mobilized to collect the bodies of dead victims. According to the PRF, among the victims are a mother and her three-year-old son of Argentine nationality, plus a woman and four men. The child’s father survived, came to help his son by his own means, but the child did not resist.
The highway did not need to be closed and work continues on site. In a note, Viação Catarinense reported that the vehicle was destined for Foz do Iguaçu and that teams are on site providing assistance to passengers and family members.
Information about the names of passengers and other data was not passed on. “Viação Catarinense informs that the bus that left Florianópolis (SC), at 4:20 pm last Monday (30), and was destined for Foz do Iguaçu (PR) fell on the BR-277 track, in the central region of Paraná , early this Tuesday (31). Unfortunately, 7 passengers died at the scene and the others were treated. The company deeply regrets what happened and has teams on site providing assistance to passengers and their families. Viação Catarinense reinforces its commitment to safety and is at the disposal of the authorities for clarification on the accident.”
